Live for Delhi NCR and the Punjab and Haryana fire belt

Forecast the smog.Trace the source.Act before it hits.

Vayu AI monitors air quality across Delhi NCR, forecasts the AQI hour by hour for the next 72 hours, and turns satellite fires, traffic and industry signals into an enforcement dossier with early warnings and clear actions for every agency.

  • 23 monitoring points
  • Hourly forecasts, 72 hours out
  • Satellite fire detections
  • Refreshed every 30 minutes

Right now

The warning signs show up days before the smog

Fires in the fields, still winds and choked roads. Vayu AI reads them together, live, so the response can start before the AQI does.

What Vayu AI does

Air quality, fires and traffic in one place

Most dashboards stop at the AQI number. Vayu AI connects it to what is causing it and what to do next.

  • Live AQI monitoring

23 points across Delhi, NCR and the upwind districts, scored on India's National AQI with all six pollutants and the one driving the number.

  • 72-hour forecasts

Hour-by-hour AQI and pollutant forecasts for three days, with the peak, the cleanest window and the GRAP level each day points to.

  • One map for every signal

Stations, farm fires, traffic corridors, industry, landfills and wind on a single map, with a slider that plays the next 72 hours.

  • Farm fire tracking

NASA satellite detections grouped by district, with fire power and a smoke transport risk built from the wind forecast.

  • Traffic emissions

Congestion on nine arterial corridors, live when connected to a traffic feed, linked to the air quality on either side of the road.

  • Industry and landfill watch

Industrial estates, landfills and power plants ranked by inspection priority as forecast air and dispersion change.

  • Early warnings

Alerts with lead time and confidence when air is about to cross Very Poor or Severe, when smoke is on its way or when winds die down.

  • Enforcement dossier

A printable brief every hour: warnings, outlook, hotspots and GRAP-aligned actions for each agency, ready to share.

How it works

From raw signals to a plan, every hour

  1. Step 1

    Sense

Every 30 minutes Vayu pulls chemistry forecasts, weather, satellite fire passes and traffic for 23 points across the airshed.

  2. Step 2

    Forecast

Regional forecasts are sharpened for each neighbourhood using local traffic, industry, dust and burning, then scored on the national AQI for 72 hours.

  3. Step 3

    Attribute

Fire counts, winds, congestion and weather estimate what is driving the air today, from vehicles and dust to smoke from the fields.

  4. Step 4

    Act

Thresholds trigger early warnings, GRAP stages map to actions, and every agency gets its list in the enforcement dossier.

The enforcement dossier

Early warnings and a clear plan, issued every hour

The dossier turns the forecast into decisions. It is written for the people who have to act, and prints cleanly for the morning briefing.

  • Early warnings ranked by severity, with lead time and confidence
  • A 72-hour outlook for every Delhi and NCR monitoring point
  • An indicative split of where the pollution is coming from
  • Farm fire districts, traffic hotspots and inspection priorities
  • GRAP-aligned actions for each agency, with timing
  • A public health advisory for schools, hospitals and residents

Who it is for

Built for the people who clear the air

  • Pollution control boards

Invoke GRAP stages ahead of time, prioritise inspections and track which hotspots are driving the numbers.

  • Traffic police

Know which corridors will choke during the worst air, and where marshals and pollution checks matter most.

  • Municipal bodies

Send sprinklers, sweepers and anti-smog guns to the wards forecast to cross Very Poor, before they do.

  • Agriculture departments

See farm fires by district after every satellite pass and move residue machinery where burning is spreading.

  • Health departments

Get a three-day warning to prepare hospitals and issue advisories for children, older adults and patients.

  • Schools and residents

Plan outdoor activity around the cleanest hours and know when to keep children indoors.

Open data, clear method

Built on sources you can check

Every number in Vayu AI traces back to a public dataset or a published standard. The dossier explains how each estimate is made and where its limits are.

  • Air quality forecasts

    Copernicus CAMS

European atmospheric chemistry forecasts for PM2.5, PM10, NO₂, SO₂, O₃ and CO, delivered through Open-Meteo.

  • Satellite fire detections

    NASA FIRMS

VIIRS 375 m active fire data from the NOAA-20 and NOAA-21 satellites, a few hours after each pass.

  • Weather and dispersion

    Open-Meteo

Wind, mixing height, humidity, temperature and rain for every monitoring point.

  • AQI standard

    CPCB National AQI

India's six-category index and pollutant breakpoints, so the numbers match official bulletins.

  • Response framework

    CAQM GRAP

The four-stage Graded Response Action Plan that the recommended actions follow.

  • Congestion

    Traffic flow

Live corridor speeds when a traffic feed is connected, typical weekday and weekend patterns otherwise.

Questions

What people ask about Vayu AI

How often is the data updated?

Forecasts, weather and traffic refresh every 30 minutes. Farm fire detections arrive a few hours after each satellite pass, usually several times a day. Every page shows when its data was last updated.

Which AQI does Vayu AI use?

India's National Air Quality Index from CPCB, with six categories from Good to Severe. PM2.5, PM10, NO₂ and SO₂ use 24-hour averages, O₃ and CO use 8-hour averages, and the AQI is the highest of the six sub-indices.

Where do the 72-hour forecasts come from?

Vayu AI starts from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service chemistry forecasts and sharpens them for each monitoring point using local traffic, industry, dust and burning patterns, adjusted hour by hour for weather.

Is the enforcement dossier an official order?

No. It is decision support. GRAP stages are invoked by the Commission for Air Quality Management, and official AQI bulletins come from CPCB. The dossier helps agencies prepare and target their response.

How are farm fires detected?

NASA's VIIRS instruments on the NOAA-20 and NOAA-21 satellites spot active fires at 375 m resolution. Vayu keeps nominal and high confidence detections, merges duplicates and maps each fire to its district.

Is the traffic data live?

Each corridor follows typical weekday and weekend congestion patterns by default. When a live traffic feed is connected, current speeds replace the pattern for the hours ahead.

Can Vayu AI cover other cities?

Vayu AI currently covers Delhi NCR and the Punjab and Haryana fire belt. The same engine runs on any set of locations, so other airsheds can be added.
